ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE

I remember this phrase from childhood, when I watched the film ‘The Three Musketeers.’  The Latin phrase ‘Uno pro omnibus, omnes pro uno,’ translates as ‘one for all, all for one’ and is the unofficial motto of Switzerland.  These words have been used by William Shakespeare.  This phrase can also be used by Christians, the Body of Christ, in their walk with the Lord our saviour Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 4:1-6 (CSB)
Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.  There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope at your calling – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

In these End Times/Last Days, as an increasing number of people have given in to sin and have embraced a me, me, me culture, idolising their money and possessions, what a refreshing way of life it could be for everyone to embrace the lifestyle of one for all and all for one.  True Christians already look out for their fellow human beings.  Just as Jesus Christ laid down His life on the cross for our sins, shouldn’t we also be united and look out for one another and be loving and caring towards our fellow human beings.  Here in the Book of Acts, we read of a generous and growing church.

Acts 2:42-47 (CSB)
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.  Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.  They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need.  Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house.  They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.  Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

How wonderful these early Christians were, having a Holy Spirit filled life, helping others in a self-sacrificial way and becoming a united people of God.  What a great example to us all, working together for the Body of Christ.
