A BABY NAMED JESUS

Throughout the Old Testament of the Bible, it is said, there are more than 300 prophecies about Jesus.  It is awe-inspiring to know that prophecies in the Bible do come true.  Jesus, who came to earth as God in human form, was there right from the beginning of time.

John 1:1-5 (CSB)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.  In him was life, and that life was the light of men.  That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.

When you read this scripture, replace ‘the Word’ with ‘Jesus’ and all becomes clear.

A favourite book of the Bible of mine is Isaiah.  It is amazing to read the prophecies of Isaiah.  The birth of Jesus was foretold by this prophet 700 years before Jesus was born.

Isaiah 7:14 (CSB)
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign:  See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.

Immanuel means God with us.

Jesus could have come to earth as an adult King but He chose to come as a baby, born in a stable.  I think this gives us a good insight into the nature of God and why He loves and cares for us, His children, so much.  Jesus’ humble beginning, His ministry and miracles, healing the sick, standing up for the poor and oppressed, having compassion, casting out demons and much more besides.  His life on earth was amazing.  Then at the age of 33, He was crucified, as the prophet Isaiah foretold.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (CSB)
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.  But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.  We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

Mankind had once again become so sinful that Jesus went knowingly to the cross to die for our sins, so that by His blood that was shed for us, it was a one time sacrifice for our sins.  God loves us so much that Jesus was sacrificed for our sins.

Jesus’ life is so much more than the story of His birth at Bethlehem in a stable.  Jesus was and is our Savior, the only one who can save us from our sins.  The prophet Isaiah also foretold the resurrection of Jesus.

Isaiah 25:8 (CSB)
When he has swallowed up death once and for all, the Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face and remove his people’s disgrace from the whole earth, for the Lord has spoken.

Remember when God has spoken, every word of His will always come to pass.

Isaiah 55:11 (CSB)
“So my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

God has great compassion for us.  He made it possible, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, for our sins to be washed away.

1 John 1:7 (CSB)
If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

So, as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas of 2021, let us also remember the rest of Jesus’ life and what He endured on the cross to save us from our sins.  Let us thank God for the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus and for the salvation we are given by receiving Jesus into our hearts.  It is only through Jesus that we spend eternity with God.

John 14:6 (CSB)
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.

If you have not already given your life to Jesus Christ, do so now before it is too late.  Repent of your sins, believe and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, have faith in God, believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, was buried, after three days God raised him from the dead, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God and Jesus is going to return to establish His Kingdom on earth.

Romans 10:9-10 (CSB)
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in Salvation.

Romans 10:13 (CSB)
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Spend time this Christmas thinking about what Jesus has done for you and have a blessed Christmas.
