To not forgive someone who has done the unforgivable to you is a normal reaction and feeling. To continue down this road of unforgiveness though, will lead you to feelings of bitterness and hate, which ultimately will kill the peace, love and joy within your heart, mind and soul. The hard truth of the matter is, if we don’t forgive others, God will not forgive us.
Matthew 6:14-15 (CSB)
“For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your offenses.”
Ephesians 4:31-32 (CSB)
Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
Not forgiving others gives the devil an opportunity to creep into your life and cause you to have feelings of bitterness and hate.
Colossians 3:13 (CSB)
Bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.
Sometimes it seems impossible to forgive but we must try to, because if not we become a bitter person who has a heart full of hate. Then the devil has achieved his goal by grabbing the opportunity to steal your peace and joy and replace the love inside of you with hate.
If earthly justice does not happen, for the situation you may be in, remember what the following scripture tells us.
Romans 12:19 (CSB)
Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because, it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.
No matter how vile the deed which has been done to us or our loved ones, we must not take revenge. God is the judge and He will judge everyone. If earthly justice does not happen, we know God’s justice and judgment will happen.
