Does the Bible warn us of sorceries and magic? Yes, it does.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (CSB)
“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations. No one among you is to sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire, practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery, cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or inquire of the dead. Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do this.”
These verses of scripture tell of occult practices, as opposed to prophetic revelation.
Now, the question is, how many of us have in the past dabbled in any of these practices, or still do? In the past I have been to fortune-tellers and mediums. Most have been absolute rubbish, one was spot on. I remember my nana, a woman of great faith, telling me not to have anything to do with these practices. I have always been a Christian but it is only since becoming what I describe as a serious Christian that I saw how wrong it was of me to have gone to those people. I used to read my daily horoscope too. Needless to say, I have since repented of my sins and asked God to forgive me. God does forgive and I will never do those things ever again.
2 Chronicles 33:6 (CSB)
He passed his sons through the fire in Ben Hinnom Valley. He practiced witchcraft, divination, and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did a huge amount of evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him.
Leviticus 19:31 (CSB)
“Do not turn to mediums or consult spiritists, or you will be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God.”
How was the medium, I visited in the past, spot on with what she told me? This is what I now believe; Just as God knows everything about me, so does the devil. This woman was not getting her information from ‘the light,’ she was getting her information from ‘the darkness.’ Whether or not she knew this, I don’t know. See how easy it is to be fooled by the devil. It is only by reading the Bible that you learn the truth.
Zechariah 10:2 (CSB)
For the idols speak falsehood, and the diviners see illusions; they relate empty dreams and offer empty comfort. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they suffer affliction because there is no shepherd.
Zechariah’s message to the Jews in this verse, who had wandered off into ungodly ways because of weak leadership, was to stop practising magic to bring about good crops and rain and to put their trust in God alone.
A few months ago I gave away the television in my sitting room! I still have two smaller televisions in my home but I never watch them, I may give those away too. Why did I give the television away? In the past two years especially, I have come to realise a lot of films, programmes, ‘soap operas,’ news etc, are working their dark magic on us. We are being shown fear, horror, untruths. As an example, I stopped watching ‘soap operas’ many years ago as they suddenly became, in my opinion, very dark. They seemed to be competing with one another as to who could have the worst tragedy in their show. Far from being true to life, they became far-fetched. It is the same with films. As a child, I remember the heroes of films were slightly tongue-in-cheek, then suddenly in recent years they became very dark indeed. Many years ago, I sometimes watched horror films but even those became more violent, more scary and more evil. So I stopped watching them. The television was giving a very dark view of life, sucking the joy out of a lot of programmes. I don’t miss my television in the slightest. If there is something of interest or knowledge on my phone to watch, I do that instead.
There are dark forces out there trying to infiltrate our minds with this evil magic and sorcery which, if we don’t stop ourselves becoming hypnotised by it, will suck out the goodness, peace and joy within our hearts, minds and souls and replace it with fear, anxiety and evil. The devil is at work through many types of mediums!
Revelation 18:23 (CSB)
The light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of a groom and bride will never be heard in you again. All this will happen because your merchants were the nobility of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.
