The Collins English Dictionary tells us the definition of soft shoe shuffle; relating to a type of tap dancing performed wearing soft-soled shoes. As we know, tap dancing is quite loud as the dancer taps away on a hard floor but dancing a soft shoe shuffle is almost like a watered down version of a tap dance; doing similar steps and actions but quietly without the loud taps.
When we look at the Christian life, how many Christians are doing a soft shoe shuffle? How many are living a watered down version of a Christian life? None of us are perfect, but we can strive to become a better person day by day. If we know we are doing something sinful in the eyes of God, then we should stop doing it. If we know we should be serving Jesus more, then we should serve Jesus more. If we know we should be telling others about the Gospel, then we should tell them. We should not be taking the soft shoe shuffle approach.
Revelation 22:14-15 (CSB)
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”
What did Jesus mean by this scripture? The washing of robes is a metaphor for purification from uncleanliness or sin. As a Christian lives their life, they sin occasionally and as a Christian you must be very aware of this and put things right as quickly as possible.
2 Peter 3:13-14 (CSB)
But based on his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found without spot or blemish in his sight, at peace.
Philippians 2:14-15 (CSB)
Do everything without grumbling and arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world.
Daniel 12:10 (CSB)
Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand.
Revelation 3:15-16 (CSB)
I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.
A lukewarm Christian is one who, although saved, still loves living in their sin, they don’t really have much time for God and they don’t share their faith with others.
Open your heart to God, do what is right. If you know you are committing a sin then stop sinning. When Jesus returns, aim to be spotless.
