Luke 10:38-42 (CSB)
While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.” The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.”
How many of us are worried and upset about many things, when we should be focused on Jesus? Handing our problems over to Jesus and trusting Him completely will give us peace in our heart.
1 Peter 5:7 (CSB)
Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.
It is worth remembering that everyone has their own problems, we all have seasons of anxiety and unrest. It is especially important to remember in these moments that we have an Almighty God who cares for us and we can hand over our problems to Him and receive peace in our heart. Once we have handed over our problems to God, do not take them back again. Trust in God, that He will deal with your problems, and be patient.
All Martha could think about was her many household tasks that needed doing. She thought Mary should get up and help her but that would have taken Mary away from listening to Jesus. Martha could not see that what she should have done was to stop doing her tasks and join Mary in listening to Jesus.
How many people in this world are busy doing jobs and meaningless tasks and failing to set aside quality time to spend in the company of Jesus? Our focus should be on Jesus and not on everything else. We need to spend time every day in prayer and read the Bible to see what He is telling us. Try to decide what it is that is taking you away from spending time with Jesus and make Jesus your priority.
