HELLFIRE

Matthew 25:46 (CSB)
“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The above scripture is from the parable of the Sheep and Goats in the Bible.  It refers to the day of judgment when everyone will be judged and divided into two groups.  The sheep or the righteous and compassionate will go into eternal life and the goats or the wicked and hard-hearted will go away into eternal punishment.  It is a parable that tells us the outcome of the saved and the unsaved.

Proverbs 15:24 (CSB)
For the prudent the path of life leads upward, so that he may avoid going down to Sheol.

We all have choices in this world, but why would anyone choose to be unrepentant of their sins to end up being separated from God, as a goat in the parable, and be sent to hell?

Because of a lack of knowledge about what the Bible teaches us, some people have absolutely no idea of what awaits them if they do not believe in Jesus, repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ into their hearts.  I have even heard of people who believe in God but not in the devil!  There is both good and evil and there is both heaven and hell and there is both God and devil.  Probably the biggest deception of the devil is making people believe that he doesn’t exist.

John  8:44 (CSB)
“You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.  He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.”

The above scripture is spoken by Jesus. We should believe what He tells us.

Revelation 21:8 (CSB)
“But the cowards, faithless, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars – their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Jude 1:7 (CSB)
Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.

For those who never repent of their sins, believe in Jesus Christ and are saved – the above two scriptures tell of what they can expect after death.  God gives all of us the opportunity to repent of our sins.  He doesn’t desire anyone to be lost forever to the devil and hell.

2 Peter 3:9 (CSB)
The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

Jesus said –
Matthew 7:13-14 (CSB)
“Enter through the narrow gate.  For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it.  How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.”

Jesus teaches that the narrow gate is more difficult, He is referring to inner righteousness.  If we choose the narrow gate we expect a difficult road of the world, but it is one that will lead to life.  The scripture tells us that there will be many people who choose the wide gate and easy road, leading to destruction.  It must make God very sad to know that many people will choose the wide gate leading to destruction, because scripture tells us He doesn’t desire anyone to perish.

Psalm 9:17 (CSB)
The wicked will return to Sheol – all the nations that forget God.

The wicked go to hell, there is no second chance once you are dead!

In hell there is misery and suffering.  Believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, be forgiven and be saved while you are still alive.  Tomorrow may be too late!

2 Thessalonians 1:9-10 (CSB)
They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.

2 Peter 2:4 (CSB)
For if God didn’t spare the angels who sinned but cast them into hell and delivered them in chains of utter darkness to be kept for judgment.

In previous verses, Peter is talking of false teachers and apostasy.  We see this happening all around us, as these false teachers and preachers are twisting and changing God’s word.

Matthew 25:41 (CSB)
“Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!”

The people on the left are the ones who rejected Jesus.

Matthew 7:23 (CSB)
“Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you.  Depart from me, you lawbreakers!”

Some people believe that their good works will earn them a place in heaven, but this is not so.  It is the will of God for every person to  believe in Jesus, repent of their sins and be forgiven and to be made righteous before God.

Matthew 10:28 (CSB)
“Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Revelation 20:13-15 (CSB)
Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works.  Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.  This is the second death, the lake of fire.  And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Sheol and Hades are terms used for the realm where the wicked are kept after death, and before the great white throne judgment.  On the day of judgment they will be thrown into the lake of fire.

Please, remember, this means complete separation from God for ever.
