Isaiah 40:11 (CSB)
He protects his flock like a shepherd; he gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them in the fold of his garment. He gently leads those that are nursing.
This verse of scripture was spoken by the prophet Isaiah about 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. He spoke of the coming Messiah Jesus Christ who would save mankind from sin. Isaiah was given revelations and visions about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
The above scripture tells of the gentle nature of Jesus, how He protects His people like a shepherd protects his flock. He gently leads and carries His believers who may be weak and feeble. If His believers are tired and exhausted He will carry them, just as a good shepherd will carry the lambs who are weary.
Ephesians 4:2 (CSB)
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.
We are told in the Bible, we must have a gentle nature.
2 Timothy 2:24-26 (CSB)
The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient, instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth. Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
The apostle Paul is teaching Timothy how to keep on being a soldier of Christ, to keep teaching the gospel to others. He must teach with gentleness and patience and not be quarrelsome. By doing this, he will help to bring people to repentance and get then away from the clutches of the devil.
1 Timothy 6:11-12 (CSB)
But you, man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Paul is telling Timothy to flee from sin and to pursue the fruit of the Spirit. To be gentle is to be humble, forgiving and showing kindness to others.
Titus 3:2 (CSB)
To slander no one, to avoid fighting, and to be kind, always showing gentleness to all people.
Matthew 11:29 (CSB)
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
There is a hymn called ‘Gentle Jesus.’ The words of this hymn are by Charles Wesley, born on December 18th, 1707, at Epworth in Lincolnshire, Great Britain. He died on March 29th, 1788, at London, Great Britain.
- Gentle Jesus, meek and mild
Look upon a little child;
Pity my simplicity,
Suffer me to come to Thee.
- Lamb of God, I look to Thee;
Thou shalt my example be:
Thou art gentle, meek and mild;
Thou wast once a little child.
- Fain I would be as Thou art;
Give me Thine obedient heart:
Thou art pitiful and kind;
Let me have Thy loving mind.
- Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
In Thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Saviour, what Thou art,
Live Thyself within my heart.
Amen.
