A REPROBATE MIND

What is a reprobate mind?  The Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries explain the word reprobate as follows; a person who behaves in a way that society thinks is not moral.  On Merriam-Webster.com, we have the following explanations; morally corrupt, depraved, foreordained to damnation, to condemn strongly as unworthy, unacceptable, or evil.  On dictionary.com, their explanation says; a depraved, unprincipled, or wicked person.

Now let us have a look at this Bible scripture.

Romans 1:28 (CSB)
And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right.

In the KJV Bible the word reprobate is used instead of corrupt, but both mean the same thing.  If we then move on to the next few verses of the above scripture, we have an explanation of the corrupt or reprobate mind.

Romans 1:29-32 (CSB)
They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness.  They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice.  They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, senseless, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.  Although they know God’s just sentence – that those who practice such things deserve to die – they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.

The reprobate or corrupt mind is seen all around the world.  When people turn away from God or refuse to believe in God, we see more evil and confusion enter into the world.  In the end, God turns His face away from such people and delivers them over to a reprobate mind.  This is exactly what we are witnessing in our world right now.

Revelation 22:10-13 (CSB)
Then he said to me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.  Let the unrighteous go on in unrighteousness; let the filthy still be filthy; let the righteous go on in righteousness; let the holy still be holy.”  “Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Jesus is returning to this world.  Those who continue to have a reprobate mind, and sin, will find themselves forever separated from God.  If people would only turn from their sin and believe in God, repent and believe in Jesus Christ, they will be saved.  If they continue down the path they are going, they will go to hell.

Getting the message of the good news of the gospel to as many people as we can in these last days is of the utmost importance, to help save as many souls as we can from ending up in the lake of fire.  Take a good look around you and around the world.  Take notice of what is happening in the world.

2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 (CSB)
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one now restraining will do so until he is out of the way, and then the lawless one will be revealed.  The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of his mouth and will bring him to nothing at the appearance of his coming.  The coming of the lawless one is based on Satan’s working, with every kind of miracle, both signs and wonders serving the lie, and with every wicked deception among those who are perishing.  They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth and so be saved.  For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe the lie, so that all will be condemned – those who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.

Paul is speaking here of the Holy Spirit being the restrainer.  When the Holy Spirit is removed from restraining, lawlessness will be manifested greatly.  The day of the Lord occurs after apostasy and a falling away from God takes place and the revealing of the man of lawlessness, who is the antichrist.  The antichrist will deceive many people on earth.

God has His plan though.  The people who believe the truth of Jesus Christ will have eternal life, but the people who believe the lies of the devil, antichrist and false prophet and who do not repent and be saved will perish.
