KINDNESS

Colossians 3:12 (CSB)
Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

As Christians we are told to have the above qualities.  Kindness is one of the qualities we must have.

Proverbs 11:17 (CSB)
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel person brings ruin on himself.

It is far better to be kind than to be cruel.  The Bible tells us that a cruel person will bring ruin on himself.

Zechariah 7:10 (CSB)
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the resident alien or the poor, and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.

God spoke the above words to the prophet Zechariah.  God has shown us how to behave towards others.  We are not to oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor.  I like to think also of this saying, ‘There but for the grace of God go I.’  If not for God’s grace, one could be in an unpleasant situation also.

Proverbs 19:17 (CSB)
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the Lord, and he will give a reward to the lender.

2 Corinthians 6:6 (CSB)
By purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love.

These are special gifts and virtues we receive by the grace of God.

Ephesians 4:32 (CSB)
And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.

Romans 11:22 (CSB)
Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity:  severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you – if you remain in his kindness.  Otherwise you too will be cut off.

Paul is saying , to the Gentile Christians, in the above scripture that by having faith in Jesus Christ, God is kind to us.  But, for those who have fallen by their lack of faith in Jesus, God will cut them off.  If they regain their faith in Jesus, they will be grafted back in again.  God will show His kindness and do this.

Ephesians 2:7 (CSB)
So that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

To believers, God shows kindness.  To unbelievers God’s judgment awaits them.  Salvation is entirely by grace through faith.  It is not by your works that you will be saved.  It is only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and this has been made possible by the kindness of God.
