IT’S LIKE A GAME OF CHESS

The spiritual battle for our souls, raging all around the world, is like a game of chess.  The two sides, good and evil, white and black chess pieces, each making their move on the chessboard of life.  We must not let the enemy win, we have to outwit him every time.

2 Corinthians 2:11 (CSB)
So that we may not be taken advantage of by Satan.  For we are not ignorant of his schemes.

The devil has many evil schemes planned.  He is a liar and a deceiver.  He has been like that with mankind since Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Ephesians 6:11 (CSB)
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.

Luke 10:19-20 (CSB)
“Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing at all will harm you.  However, don’t rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Jesus was speaking to seventy-two of his disciples who had just returned to Jesus after taking the message to people that the Kingdom of God is near.  With the power they had been given by Jesus, they had been able to heal people and even demons had to submit to them as they spread the message in the name of Jesus.  There is power in the name of Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (CSB)
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!  Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Paul is teaching, in the above scripture, about the resurrection of Christians from the dead.  He is explaining that death is not the end of life.  All who believe in Jesus will receive a spiritual body after death and eternal life with Jesus.  Death will be defeated forever.  As believers we know that if we stay faithful to God and stay close to Jesus, and follow His commands, we are assured of our place in heaven with Him.  We also know that Jesus has authority over all demons and we need not fear evil because we can resist evil in the name of Jesus.

James 4:7 (CSB)
Therefore, submit to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Philippians 2:10 (CSB)
So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth – and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

You will only lose the game of chess if you don’t know how to play!  Study the Word of God, read your Bible, read the scriptures to learn how you can win this spiritual war.  Remember, you have to outwit the enemy!
