1 Thessalonians 5:3 (CSB)
When they say, “Peace and Security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.”
If you look at older Bibles, the King James Version (KJV) or the Geneva Bible, the words ‘Peace and Safety’ are used instead of ‘Peace and Security.’ It is good to remember both of these phrases.
The above scripture is about the Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the last days. The Apostle Paul is giving guidance and saying that the day of the Lord Jesus’ return will be like a thief in the night. In other words there will be no announcement about the day and time He is coming, He will suddenly appear. While people in the world are talking about peace and safety or peace and security, then sudden destruction will come upon them. Those people are only concerned about what the world is telling them and they are not believing in Jesus and waiting for His return.
Followers and believers in Jesus are of the light, but unbelievers are still in the darkness. The ones in the dark only take notice of what the world tells them but the ones who believe wait patiently for Jesus to return. Believers in Jesus must be ready and live a life where they have Christian values, which includes praying and having joy, love and gratitude in their hearts. They must be sober-minded to be able to live their life in challenging times.
Mark 13:32-33 (CSB)
“Now concerning that day or hour no one knows – neither the angels in heaven nor the Son – but only the Father. Watch! Be alert! For you don’t know when the time is coming.”
In the above scripture, Jesus is telling us to watch and be alert. We must live in readiness for His return. We have to get right with God and live the life He wants us to live.
