Deuteronomy 31:8 (CSB)
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
The context of this verse is about Moses, who after leading the children of Israel for 40 years, would not now be permitted to lead them into the promised land. Instead, the new leader would be Joshua and he would lead the people into the land that God had promised them. Moses said this verse to Joshua.
This verse is just as relevant today as it was in Moses’ time. We have God’s promise that whatever we face in life, He will go before us and be with us. We are never on our own. We are promised that God will never leave or forsake us. We are told to not be afraid or discouraged. What a wonderful promise that is. To know that God is right there with us at all times. There is no need to show fear or discouragement, we can look straight at whatever situation we face and know we can overcome it, because God is there with us. As Christians we live by faith, not by sight.
Dear God,
Thank you for promising to always be with us, to never leave or forsake us. How wonderful it is to know that You are ahead of us and leading us through life. We know by your promise that there is no need for us to be afraid or discouraged, because you are forever with us. When times are tough and everything seems unbearable, we know that You are there, ready to keep leading us forward. Thank you God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
