Romans 12:9 (CSB)
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
The Apostle Paul is saying here that we must be sincere in our love for each other and not show a fake love. He tells us to hate what is evil, we are not meant to tolerate evil. Next, he tells us to cling to what is good. We are to use our time and energy to keep what is good.
When we are close to God and obey His commands, He will transform us from within and we become better people. We are to keep on doing good for others and not just think about ourselves, but we must be sincere about what we are doing. Further on in Romans, chapter 12, verse 12 (CSB) it says; Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans, chapter12, verse 21 (CSB) says; Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. As Christians hope and patience are qualities that we should fully develop and it is always good to have a consistent prayer life, praying for all people. We are not meant to seek revenge on our enemies, it is better to pray for them.
Dear God,
We thank you for the love and care we have for others. We pray for people who show hate to others and not love, may they be touched by your Spirit God and have their hearts of stone turned to hearts of flesh. We pray for those committing acts of evil and pray that they will turn from their wicked, evil ways and live a Holy Spirit led life. We pray that you will keep us fully motivated and energised to use our time wisely and cling to what is good. Keep us joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
