Proverbs 19:17 (CSB)
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the Lord, and he will give a reward to the lender.
Giving help to the poor is what God wants us to do. That could be anything from a much needed drink of water or something to eat, clothing or practical help such as housework or gardening. Being kind to the poor does not always involve expense. God rewards us accordingly for how we help the poor. God sees our kindness to the poor as a loan to Himself, and He repays us. He blesses us.
In Matthew 25:40 (CSB) Jesus says;
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
In return for our kindness to the poor, we receive spiritual blessings. By being cold-hearted and mean to the poor, you are actually being cold-hearted and mean to Jesus! That can have consequences!
Dear God,
Thank you for giving us a loving heart, to help others in need and to show kindness to them. Although we don’t give to receive back, we thank you for the blessings we receive from you when we help the poor. Thank you for giving us empathy, compassion and understanding towards others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
