Ecclesiastes 5:10 (CSB)
The one who loves silver is never satisfied with silver, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is futile.
There is an old saying, ‘more wants more.’ How true this scripture and that old saying are. Riches do not give you eternal happiness. The scripture tells us it is futile, or in other words, futile is described in a dictionary as; being occupied with things of little value, substance, or importance (merriam-webster.com). In fact, riches can cause all sorts of problems. The Bible warns us of wealth and greed. In Mark 10:23 (CSB) it says – Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God.” Why is it hard for them to enter the kingdom of God? It is hard for some wealthy people because they put their trust in money and not in God. We are told in the Bible that you can’t serve both God and money. Often, wealth can make a person greedy and enough wealth is never enough for them. Whatever their salary is, it is never enough for them. Whatever possessions they have, it is never enough for them. They are never content with what they have.
In 1 Timothy 6:10 (CSB) it says – For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Rich or poor, it is better to put your trust in God and not in money. Being content with whatever you have gives you peace. In 1 Timothy 6:6 (CSB) it says – But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Dear God,
Thank you. By putting our trust in You and not in money we can live a peaceful and happy life, fully content with whatever we have. Thank you God that we can rely on You to supply our needs. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
