1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (CSB)
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
When God raised Jesus from the dead (the resurrection of Jesus Christ), the sting of death and the power of sin were no more. They were swallowed up in victory. Therefore, we give thanks to God. In chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul is talking to Christians about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and about believers being changed when Jesus returns. He explains how resurrection is essential to the faith. He says in verse 22 of this chapter – For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. Adam brought sin into the world by disobeying God. Jesus Christ got the victory over death and sin when He was resurrected.
Between verses 50-54 of this chapter, the Apostle Paul explains that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor can corruption inherit incorruption. He explains how all believers will be changed into an immortal and imperishable state with the return of Jesus Christ, along with the bodily resurrection of the dead. We are told to remain steadfast and immovable in our faith and to always excel in the Lord’s work, because our labour in the Lord is not in vain. In other words, whatever we do for the Lord is worthwhile and has purpose.
Dear God,
Thank you for Jesus Christ and the victory He has over death and sin. We pray for continual strength in our faith, and that we always excel in Your work. We wait patiently for the return of Jesus and His glorious Millennial reign on Earth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
