Psalms 121:1-8 (CSB)
I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep. The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. The sun will not strike you by day or the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all harm; he will protect your life. The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever.
This Psalm is a song of ascent. The people of Israel, in Biblical days, travelled to Jerusalem for their annual festivals, by way of the hills. This Psalm would be sung as they travelled on their way. There could be many dangers on their journey to Jerusalem, and this Psalm tells of how God cares for His people. God provides constant stability. The people travelling trusted God to watch over them. The Psalm tells us that God does not slumber or sleep, He is watching over the travellers by day and by night. God protects His people from the scorching sun and the dangers of the night. It tells us that God protects our coming and going, now and forever. God protects our life. If we put our trust in God, we have no reason to be fearful.
Dear God,
Thank you for being our Protector and watching over us by day and by night. You are the Maker of heaven and earth and You have everything under control. We trust you God and have no reason to be fearful. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
