But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out.
The love of money is the root of all evil. When we are born we bring nothing into the world, and when we die we can take nothing out of it. Chasing after status and riches can lead us into temptation and give us a mindset of materialism, which can take us away from God. To have godliness with contentment is to have true riches. Wealth is temporal, it is better to put your time and effort into getting to know God better. Being obsessed about chasing wealth is pointless, it is better to have contentment and peace of mind, and to appreciate what you have. To live your life in a way that is pleasing to God, is a way which honours God and it will give you a strong spiritual life. There are real dangers of being greedy and materialistic, as temptations and sin can enter into your life. The devil uses the love of money to entrap people.
Dear God,
We thank you that we can be content with what we have, and concentrate on leading a godly life, a life which honours you God. We thank you for the peace we have, when we are content and thankful for what we have been blessed with. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
