Acts 2:17 (CSB)
And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
In the Old Testament, in Joel 2:28, God had given this message to the prophet Joel. About 800 years later on Pentecost in Jerusalem, the Apostle Peter quotes this verse. On that day, Peter was with a group of about 120 disciples who had been baptized and had received the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues (the ability to speak in different languages). There were a large number of Jewish people there for Pentecost who were amazed that these disciples were talking in different languages. Peter gave a talk, a public declaration, to the Jewish people present, and then gave a call to repentance. That day about 3,000 people repented, were baptized and became Christians.
God’s Holy Spirit is available to all people; old and young, men and women, rich and poor. Acts 2:17 is a prophecy for both the past, present and future, all through the church age of the end times and last days, up to the return of Jesus Christ.
Dear God,
We pray that the gospel is preached more and more, around the world, so that people will repent of their sins, believe in Jesus Christ, be forgiven and be saved and filled with God’s Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
